X / Twitter Video Downloader

Follow the footage behind an X post. Add the video post link, review the result, and save an available copy.

Keep an X video tied to its original post

Videos on X, also known as Twitter, often spread through replies, quoted posts, and reposts long after their first upload. The same footage can appear with several different descriptions. Before saving an authorised copy, open the original post you intend to reference and read its surrounding text. Check whether the account uploaded the recording or is commenting on someone else's material. A local file can preserve the image while dropping the date, caption, and discussion that explain what viewers are actually seeing.

Copy the specific post address

Use the sharing option on the post containing the video and copy its link. A profile, hashtag page, or search result does not identify one particular recording. If you are viewing a quoted post, confirm which layer contains the actual video. The outer comment may refer to a different source or include only a preview. Open the media-bearing post when possible and compare its length with the version you need. This reduces confusion between a short excerpt and a longer recording circulating in the same thread.

Request and check the returned file

Paste the URL into the input above and select Download. Let the request finish before trying a second post. If the service returns media, review the preview, save the available file, and play it locally. Check the beginning and ending, especially if the clip is being used to illustrate an event or statement. A matching thumbnail is not enough to confirm that you received the same edit. Listen for the expected sound and verify that the relevant moment is actually included.

Preserve dates and qualifications

A recording uploaded today may show something that happened years ago. Keep the post URL and any reliable date information with your reference rather than labelling the file only with the day you downloaded it. If the author states that the video is edited, illustrative, or part of a longer sequence, retain that qualification. Replies can also point to corrections, although a popular comment is not automatically reliable. Revisit the source when accuracy matters instead of treating your saved copy as a complete record on its own.

Recognise technical differences

Some posts contain multiple media items, while others link to footage hosted elsewhere. Check which item the returned result represents and whether an external source page is needed. A video may be intentionally silent, or the backend may not offer the audio variation you expected. Compare with the original player before drawing conclusions. Resolution labels should be checked through actual playback; they do not restore missing detail or establish that every offered label points to a different file. Save only the version that serves your legitimate purpose.

If a post cannot be retrieved

Check whether it still exists and whether the video plays on X. Deleted posts, protected accounts, audience restrictions, and source changes can prevent an external request from succeeding. Copy a fresh share link if necessary. Fdl cannot restore removed recordings or gain access through your personal login session. Never provide your account password to the downloader. When you need a dependable copy of another person's work, contact the uploader and ask whether they can supply an approved version with its source information intact.

Avoid stripping away meaning when sharing

Cropping, trimming, or detaching footage from a post can change how people interpret it. Ask permission where required before republishing, and consider the privacy of anyone shown. For an authorised excerpt, preserve the explanation needed to understand what was recorded and what remains uncertain. A clear filename and source note make your own archive easier to use too. The aim is to keep a traceable reference that can be checked later, rather than a disconnected clip that acquires a new story every time it is forwarded.

X (Twitter) download questions

Help with X (Twitter) links and download results.

Which link should I use for a quoted X post?

Copy the address of the post that contains the actual video. The outer comment may only refer to another upload.

Should I record the original publication date?

Yes, if you are keeping footage as a reference. The date you download it may be very different from when the event occurred.

Can I retrieve footage from a protected account?

Fdl does not inherit your personal viewing permissions. Ask the uploader to provide a copy they are willing to share.
